- 31st July 2008 - Launch of Centre for Immunity, Infection and Evolution
- A new Centre is being initiated at the Ashworth Laboratories, bringing together researchers from the Institute of Evolutionary Biology, Institute of Immunology and Infection Research, Centre for Infectious Diseases and the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.
The initiative has been funded with Centre-in-Development status by the Wellcome Trust. Further details can be found on the Centre's new website.
- 2nd July 2008 - IEB researchers win L'Oreal Women in Science awards
- IEB's Sarah Reece and Ashleigh Griffin have both been awarded L'Oreal UK For Women In Science Fellowships.
The fellowships were awarded by an international panel of judges to further the careers of outstanding young women in science.
Only four fellowships are awarded across all scientific disciplines each year. Congratulations to Sarah & Ashleigh!

- IEB's Nick Barton has been awarded this year's Darwin-Wallace medal by the Linnean Society of London.
This is for work which contributes to "major advances in evolutionary biology since 1958".

- 1st May 2008 - Josephine Pemberton elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh
- We offer our congratulations to Josephine Pemberton who has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE).
Fellowship of the RSE is extremely prestigious and each candidature for fellowship undergoes a rigorous four-stage annual selection process. There have been many distinguished Fellows of the Society (including such notaries as Adam Smith, Walter Scott, Charles Darwin,William Wordsworth, Francis Crick, and Charlotte Auerbach).

- 1st May 2008 - Brian Charlesworth awarded Weldon memorial prize
- Congratulations to Brian Charlesworth who has been awarded the Weldon memorial prize.
The prize was founded to perpetuate the memory of Professor W.R.F. Weldon and to encourage Biometric Science. It is awarded every year, "without regard to nationality or membership of any university", to the person who in the judgement of the Electors has in recent years published the most noteworthy contribution to Biometric Science.

- 24 Oct 2006 - IEB Staff win awards
- Members of the School will be delighted to hear of awards made recently to staff in IEB:
Stu West has been awarded a Scientific Medal by the Zoological Society of London, in recognition of scientific merit.
Brian Charlesworth has been given the Frink Medal, also by the Zoological Society of London. The Frink is "for significant and original contributions by a professional zoologist to the development of zoology in the wider applications", and previous recipients include John Maynard Smith, John Krebs, W.D.Hamilton and Robert May.
Lastly, Andy Gardner (who is moving his URF to Edinburgh in June 2007) has won the 2007 Young Investigators Prize by the American Society of Naturalists.
- 3 Mar 2006 - IEB Staff win prestigious prizes
- Both Loeske Kruuk and Stu West have won Philip Leverhulme Prizes for Zoology in the 2006 competition.
These are highly prestigious research prizes for young scholars, worth £70,000 over two years, whose work has already gained international recognition. This is the first time any of these prizes have been won by members of the College of Science & Engineering. To have secured 2 of the 5 awarded for Zoology is very welcome recognition of the excellence of the research of Loeske and Stu and all their colleagues.

- 1 Feb 2006 - Andy Gardner wins Thomas Henry Huxley award
- We offer our congratulations to Andy Gardner for being awarded the Thomas Henry Huxley award of the Zoological Society of London for 2005. The award recognises the best thesis published in the area of Zoology in the year and is well deserved recognition of the quality of the PhD work he did with Nick Barton and Stu West while he was here between 2001 and 2004.
